The Bayonne High School Band Presents 20th Century SLAM

Slam

The Bayonne High School Band will be presenting their spring concert entitled 20th Century SLAM which will feature American popular music of the 20th century. Serge Puchinsky is the director of the BHS Band;  the assistant director is Mrs. Dana Smerda Mason and the color guard is under the guidance of Lisa Stachniewicz and Sarah Argul.  The concert will be on Friday, May 21st at the Alexander X. O’Connor auditorium at Bayonne High School.
The BHS Marching Band, Color Guard, and Jazz Ensemble will be performing a myriad of songs from different popular genres of the 20th century including Ragtime, All That Jazz, Over the Rainbow, and Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, just to name a few. “Our students have been performing popular music of the 20th century all year,” stated director Serge Puchinsky, “Each year we choose a different genre or style to focus on so that by the time a student graduates, they’ve been exposed to almost every kind of music there is!”, Puchinsky added. Last year the band focused on Jazz music and also visited New Orleans, the birthplace of Jazz.  According to Puchinsky, the students’ efforts this year are an extension of their studies from the previous year.

"Tha Bayonne High School Band program under the direction of Serge Puchinsky, Band Director and Dana Smerda Mason, Assistant Band Director offers instrumental music students the opportunity to display their talents in a variety of venues throughout the school year,"  commented Mrs. Joan H. Rosen, Director of Music and Art.  "The SLAM concert is an entertaining musical and visual multi-media production allowing the students on the stage to tell the story of the style of music that they have been studying, in this case, popular music.  Please come and support our students on Friday, May 21st in Bayonne High School and be sure to watch them perform in the Memorial Parade on Monday, May 31st,"  she added.

Tickets for SLAM! are $7.00 for the general public and $5.00 for students and senior citizens.  Tickets will be sold at the door and can be reserved by calling the Music and Art Office 201 858-5883.
