Dear Parent /Guardian:

The Bayonne School District’s Summer Bridge Program is aimed at bringing joy and beauty, mystery, and mischievous delight into the hearts of young people in their years of greatest curiosity and growth.  It is a scientifically proven fact that access to books can provide students with the practice they need to reach their full reading potential.  Providing time for independent reading increases students’ comprehension, vocabulary, fluency and test taking skills.  However, students need to be motivated to want to read.  Books of their own choosing will motivate them.

Allow your child to select books that he/she will find interesting and engaging.  Your librarian, your child’s teacher or local bookstore and Internet sites will be able to assist you and your child in selecting something.

Attached you will find specific information on the assignments your child will be expected to complete.

As partners in your child’s education, we are requesting that you sign and return the form below to your child’s language arts teacher, no later than June 15, 2009.
