Welcome to Early Childhood Education
A professor once said “The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.”
It is the mission of the District’s Early Childhood program to foster each child’s intellectual, physical, emotional, social and creative development through the discoveries that young children use to make sense of the world around them.
Toward that end, October will be filled with important activities and opportunities. For instance, our dynamic pre-K expansion will take shape in a visual way through the full-day program lottery to be held in anticipation of a November 1, 2017 start at five schools. Likewise, children in the Early Childhood program are experiencing the joy of discovery found in reading through our 100 Book Challenge Program. These and other opportunities for discovery mark each of classrooms and our curriculum as well.
As part of pushing beyond any limits on the world open to us, October will also be a time for marking our progress. For students, first marking period progress reports will be distributed on October 6th for the grade schools and October 11th for the high school. For staff, we will also have a training session on October 20th, after an abbreviated school day. Marking our students’ progress and expanding our staff’s knowledge base are just two of things we will focus on in October to further our mission and soar. Only our own imaginations and determination can limit the world open to us.
We look forward to letting you know next month some of the specific events and undertakings that we will mark our educational calendar along the way.
