As the first month of 2018 quickly passes us by, February marks an exciting and busy time for the English/Language Arts Department. It is hard to believe that February marks the completion of half the school year.
Our high school learners recently completed the district assessment to measure growth and determine knowledge of reading comprehension and writing skills. February marks the beginning of the third marking period at Bayonne High School. Teachers in grades 9-12 have worked diligently to complete and implement curriculum that is aligned with the NJ Student Learning Standards. Faculty members of the English/Language Arts Department are looking forward to meeting with parents and guardians at the Mid-Year Parent Conferences on February 15th from 6-8pm. During the month of February, the BHS Chapter of The National English Honor Society will be accepting applications for Juniors and Seniors who are interested and meet the application requirements. Students who are inducted to the BHS chapter of NEHS will receive national recognition, scholarship eligibility, and opportunities for networking with others who share enthusiasm for the language arts.
The third marking period is underway for our students at the elementary level. The students in grades three through eight are completing close reading activities and writing assessments as they continue to prepare for the PARCC assessment. These learners are improving their reading comprehension and writing skills by reading a series of novels, short stories and non-fiction texts during the third marking period.
