Wilson Fundations Program
The Bayonne Board of Education has adopted the Wilson Fundations Program which will be implemented district-wide with students in Kindergarten through Grade 2. The Wilson Fundations curriculum emphasizes a systematic approach to teaching foundational reading skills focusing on phonemic awareness, phonics/word study, high frequency word study (trick words), vocabulary, spelling, fluency, comprehension and spelling. In addition there is a handwriting component.
Fundations incorporates a scaffolded, multisensory approach that teaches skills sequentially and cumulatively. Instruction will be 30 minutes daily in all K-3 classrooms. Students will use manipulatives that include dry erase tablets, letter tiles and letter boards as they learn letter-sound correlation and are taught to segment and blend phonemes.
