Medical Excuse and Home Instruction Procedures

Medical Excuse

BHS:

If a student has a medical excuse from a doctor and is unable to participate in Physical Education, they will be issued an Independent Study assignment and be placed in a study during their PE period until they have been cleared to return.

  • A doctor's note must be submitted to the nurse.
  • The nurse will notify the PE teacher and guidance counselor that the student is excused from physical activity.
  • The guidance counselor will enroll the student into a study and provide the independent study link to the student.
  • Prior to returning to PE, the student will submit all completed work to their guidance counselor AND PE teacher by "sharing" the assignment on Google.
  • The PE teacher will grade the assignment and enter the grade(s) into the Portal.
  • The student may return to PE on the date of return indicated on the doctor's note. 

Elementary:

If a student has a medical excuse from a doctor and is unable to participate in Physical Education, they will be excluded from participating in PE until they have been cleared to return.

  • A doctor's note must be submitted to the nurse.
  • The nurse will notify the PE teacher and guidance counselor that the student is excused from physical activity.
  • The student may return to PE on the date of return indicated on the doctor's note. 

Home Instruction

BHS:

If a student is placed on home instruction and is unable to take Health and/or Physical Education, they will be required to complete the Independent Study assignment.

  • The student's guidance counselor will notify the PE teacher of the student being placed on home instruction.
  • The guidance counselor will provide the independent study link to the student.
  • Prior to returning to school, the student will submit all completed work to their guidance counselor AND PE teacher by "sharing" the assignment on Google.
  • The PE teacher will grade the assignment and enter the grade(s) into the Portal
