ESL/Bilingual Education

WELCOME!

A Message To Our Parents & Students...

The K–12 ESL/Bilingual Department is a transitional support program designed to help Multilingual Learners acquire English language proficiency while continuing to progress academically. The program's primary goal is to prepare students to thrive in general education settings and interact confidently alongside native English speakers. Students exit the program once they achieve a 4.5 on the ACCESS 2.0 assessment, indicating readiness for full integration.

To serve the diverse needs of the district, the department provides targeted language instruction and scaffolding across all subject areas. In bilingual classrooms, students follow the same curriculum as their peers, supported in their native language to ensure comprehension and academic growth. ESL teachers collaborate with general education teachers and "push in" for two periods each day, reinforcing English skills while supporting content mastery and student confidence.

ESL PROGRAM VISION

Our overarching vision is to develop Bilingual and ESL programs that serve as model programs for the state—programs that exemplify excellence in language development, academic achievement, and cultural inclusivity. We aim to create learning environments where every Multilingual Learner is empowered to thrive academically and socially, and where their linguistic and cultural backgrounds are viewed as assets. Additionally, we envision a district where all educators are equipped to support language learners and where equity, access, and high expectations guide every decision.

Language is the road map of a culture. It tells you where its people come from and where they are going.
