The development of successful teams and quality recreational sports programs, with a focus on the welfare of our student-athletes, is inherent to our mission. The Athletic Department is dedicated to the principle that the pursuit of excellence in scholastic athletics must be accomplished within the framework of an academic community committed to providing equitable opportunities for all student-athletes, students, and faculty.

Below are the guiding principles of the Bayonne High School Athletic Department. These beliefs and attitudes are embedded in our history and guide us in our behavior.

We follow the intent and the letter of each rule by which we have agreed to abide. We are honest in our dealings with student-athletes, coaches, staff, opponents, and governing bodies.

We are committed to the personal development and well being of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff. We aspire to achieve success at the highest level of competitive athletics consistent with our resources. We serve young people who aspire to succeed at the highest levels of both academic and athletic performance.

Athletic opportunities are a vehicle to heighten personal development and thus we believe that the benefits of athletic participation should be available to as many students, faculty, and staff as possible regardless of gender, race, physical challenges or athletic skill.

Excellence: The Athletics Department's active pursuit of excellence begins with of distinguished students, coaches and staff and extends to interscholastic competition as well as intramural, club and recreational programs. The goal of such pursuits is a quality experience for all students independent of their level of participation. Our primary focus on academic excellence remains constant as we strive to create these valuable experiences.

Integrity: The Athletics Department vigorously strives to conduct its programs and functions with the utmost level of integrity. Our goals, strategies and decisions are founded on the principles of integrity and honesty. We strive for high moral character, honor, respect and honesty in all our actions realizing that the strength of a community is based on the integrity of its members.

Sportsmanship: Bayonne High School fields disciplined and competitive student-athletes and teams committed to the highest level of sportsmanship. We are resolved to creating an atmosphere of respect, fairness and graciousness among all of our constituencies including our own student-athletes, coaches, opponents, faculty, staff, alumni, supporters, fans, and neighbors.

Strength in Community: Bayonne High School constantly aspires to be a just, welcoming and caring community in the fullest sense. The Athletics Department embraces this responsibility and explicitly seeks to enhance community by means of its interactions, activities and programs. We are a community encompassing our teams, the athletic department, the school, alumni, friends of Bayonne High School, and the surrounding Bayonne area. We serve as role models, mentors, and leaders seeking not only to teach others but also to learn from their diverse experiences.  We take pride in creating and fostering life enhancing reciprocal relationships, which lead to a strong and vibrant community.

Service: The Athletics Department is devoted to having all its members, student-athletes and staff; recognize their individual and collective responsibility to providing service to our School, our communities and neighbors. Toward that end, all members of the Athletics Department are expected to engage in community service.

Pride in Garnett & White: We are beneficiaries of a rich and living tradition forged by all the efforts of all those who have come before us.  Our personal and team triumphs add to the growing pride that we share with the “Garnett & White” Community. Through leadership, school spirit, and devoted alumni, we build on the Bayonne High School tradition and instill a pride in Bayonne Athletics that remains throughout a lifetime.
