  • MISSION:

The HPE department's mission is to GET KIDS MOVING!  We are committed to fostering a culture of holistic well-being through our Health and Physical Education program.  Our mission is to empower our students to lead healthy, active, and fulfilling lives by providing them with the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to make informed choices about their physical, mental, and emotional health.

    OUR GOALS:

Promote Physical Fitness: We aim to instill a lifelong love for physical activity and fitness by offering a comprehensive physical education curriculum that caters to students of all abilities.  In addition to encouraging teamwork and sportsmanship, we seek to help children build strength, endurance, and agility through a range of sports, activities, and fitness evaluations.

Health Education: We are dedicated to equipping our students with the knowledge and critical thinking skills required to make healthy decisions.  Our health education program covers a wide range of topics, including mental health, sexual health education, substance abuse prevention, first aid, stress management, and overall well-being.

Social and Emotional Wellness: We believe that social and emotional wellness is just as essential as physical wellness. The components of our curriculum encourage self-awareness, empathy, resiliency, and effective communication. Our goal is to establish a welcoming, accepting environment where students feel free to express themselves and ask for assistance when necessary.

Lifelong Learning: Our mission extends beyond the classroom, as we aspire to instill a passion for lifelong learning in the realm of health and physical education. We encourage our students to take ownership of their health and well-being, continue to make informed choices and adapt to the changing landscape of health and fitness throughout their lives.

Community Engagement: We recognize the importance of community involvement in promoting health and wellness. Our program seeks to engage not only our students but also their families and the wider community through events, workshops, and initiatives that promote a shared commitment to well-being.

Inclusivity: We are dedicated to providing an inclusive environment where every student, regardless of their physical abilities, feels valued and empowered to participate.  We adapt our curriculum to accommodate diverse needs and promote an understanding and appreciation of individual differences.

Continuous Improvement: We are committed to ongoing assessment and improvement of our HPE program.  We actively seek feedback from students, parents, and educators to refine our curriculum, teaching methods, and resources, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of health and physical education practices.

In pursuing our mission, we strive to empower our students with the knowledge, skills, and values that will enable them to lead healthy, active lives and contribute positively to their communities.  Together, we are building a foundation for a healthier, happier, and more resilient future.

In addition to providing Physical Education to all Bayonne students, we offer many extracurricular activities after school and on weekends.  We encourage all families to take advantage of our athletic offerings when available to enhance student health, socialization skills, and sportsmanship.

*Health and Physical Education are mandated by the State of New Jersey.  These courses are required to be taken during each year of enrollment in school.
